Each main character in the Tales by Moons-Light™ book series, starting with Frankie and the Gift of Presence, has a gift. Do you?
What’s a gift?
A gift is something very special that lies at the heart of who you are. It’s what makes you different. It’s what makes you important. Every child is born with a gift, and only he (or she) has the power to use it wisely. Lucky children learn to harness their gifts and live rich, wonderful lives.
Here are some examples of gifts:
Get the idea?
Gifts are wonderful, quirky, and fun, to be sure, but they aren’t simple. You see, each gift has both an upside and a downside. The upside is easy. The upside is delightful. But a child can’t make the most of his gift unless he learns how to cope with its downside, too.
Meet Amy, a girl who has the gift of FORGING NEW PATHS. Amy is a hero and with the power to make the world a better place. She has loads of energy and knows how to make things happen! But she also tends to mow down people in her way, running right over them because she’s so eager to get where she’s going.
If Amy’s going to be successful in her mission, she’s got to win people over instead. After all, she can’t change the world all by herself. She needs to slow down, listen to others, and make good arguments to support her point of view. She needs to learn to lead. Then she can move mountains.
Lamar, on the other hand has the gift of FEARLESSNESS. He takes great risks, and with great risks came great rewards. (He won first place in his school’s sports competitions more times than his parents can count.) But one day he goofed around on his BMX bike without a helmet, thinking he was immortal, and cracked open his head, requiring 13 stiches!
Too bad! Lamar needs to learn to be a little more careful, or he’s going to be in and out of the hospital more times than his parents can count, too!
What’s YOUR gift?
You have a gift, too, but you’re the only one who can figure it out. You can ask your parents, and maybe they’ll get it right. But they could get it wrong, too.
Maybe you know what your gift is already. Maybe it’s obvious. (“I Adore Bees, for goodness sake. Who couldn’t have noticed that?”) But if you don’t know, that’s okay. As you read the books in the Tales by Moons-Light™ series, keep your eyes open. You might just stumble on your gift by surprise.
Perhaps you’ll find that you have the same gift as the main character, or you’ll see yourself in one of the people he meets along the way.
In Frankie and the Gift of Fantasty, you’ll come across a shy Urth girl named Iktae, who Loves Books. Is that your gift, too?
In Elvia and the Gift of Feeling Deeply, you’ll bump into a high-spirited boy named Rats who Breaks Rules and gets into a heap-load of trouble before the story is over! Hmmm… Sound familiar?
Yes or no? YOU decide!
FUN ACTIVITY:
Ask your best friend (or a circle of close friends) what they think your gift is. They know you better than anyone else does, right?
Once you’re done, leave me a comment and let me know the outcome.
Examples:
“Hi, I’m Randall. My friends think I have the gift of Making Messes. I think they’re right.”
“Hello, my name is Mary. My friends think I Like Bossing People Around, but they’re wrong. My gift is Always Knowing What’s Best.”
